V.A. / MASTERPIECE VOL.5 THE ULTIMATE DISCO FUNK COLLECTION (VINYL MASTERPIECE)
Sound Of Music"に固執しがちなDAYTON「FEEL THE MUSIC」からは裏?
UK PLAYERS "Love's Gonna Get You"(これが遂にCD収録!) FUNKY 80'S GROOVE CONWAY BROTHERS "Turn It Up"、グレイトNY 80'SサウンドKOPPER "Velocity"やLEMELLE "You Got Something Special"、SYNTH FUNK VIDEEO "Closet Freak"あたりのコレクターズ・アイテムは抜け目無く、はたまたGWEN GUTHRIE "Outside In The Rain"なんて往年のガラージ・クラシック(もちろんLarry Levan remix!)
TAKE THREE "Tonite's The Night (All Right)"が遂に収録で二重マル(相変わらず美しい...)♪そしてあのMATT BIANCOのキーボーディストとして知られるMARK FISHERによるUKファンク"Love Situation"は、このシリーズでは初となるFRANKIE RODRIQUEZがRe-Edit!

Masterpiece Compilation series: This compilation-series is another beauty in the PTG Records stable. It contains the Masterpieces of the 80's especially selected on the harder disco funk sound of the mid-eighties.
The same as Nighttime Lovers, the Masterpiece compilation series has also an unique mix/tracklist of known artists (with lesser known titles) and a couple of rare & hard to find disco-funk classics (mostly for the first time on CD!). Funky satisfaction guaranteed!
Masterpiece Volume 5
The Masterpiece compilation series continues with volume 5! You will find great 12 inches of e.g. Roy Ayers, Dayton, The Conway Brothers, Gwen Guthrie and less known (but not less loved) long versions of Kopper, Mark Fisher, Dante and the UK Players!
All digitally remastered for our disco funk lovers.
Some highlights:
Gwen Guthrie:
Born in 1950 in Okemah, NJ, Gwen Guthrie started singing in high school with the Ebonettes. Working with reggae star Peter Tosh in the late 70's she became friends with Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, better known as Sly & Robbie. In 1982 they produced her first album with the dancefloor hit "It should have been you". After this a bunch of albums were released until 1990.
The late famous remixer Larry Levan was a huge fan of her music; he even made a whole album for her with only remixed versions of earlier hits. The album is titled "Padlock" and was released in 1985. Gwen scored a #1 Billboard hit in late 1986 with "Ain't nothin' goin' on but the rent". The track "Outside in the rain" was the follow-up and also remixed by Larry Levan.
Gwen Guthrie died on February 4, 1999.
Dayton:
This group from Ohio was named to the capitol city of this state. Founded as a split off of the group Sun, they released in 1980 their first album, simply called "Dayton".
The group also toured with Stephanie Mills and Ashford & Simpson amongst others. From 1982, their albums were written and produced by keyboardist and vocalist Rahni Harris.
Their 1983 album "Feel the music" is highly acclaimed, including "The sound of music" and our choice for this compilation "Out tonight". The latter was released on 12inch, but this was the LP version. Frankie Rodriguez from "Behind The Grooves" made an extended version with a length of more than 6 minutes. After the last album in 1985 the group disbanded.
Mark Fisher:
British keyboard player Mark Fisher is not so well known as the two artists here above. In 1985 he joined with the pop/jazz group Matt Bianco. He had previously appeared with this band during a live television show. In that same year he released a record on his own: "Love situation". The female vocals belong to Dotty Green (in the “oldschool scene” better known from her records "I caught you out" and "I want you"). The song was released on Paul Hardcastle's own "Total Control"-label.
Nowadays "Love situation" is highly-in-demand and very hard to find. On Masterpiece Volume 5, again a version of our "most wanted editor/remixer": Frankie Rodriquez!
