A fine selection of disco funk classics of the 80's: Nighttime Lovers has built it's popularity with many disco funk lovers all over the world. Again PTG Records has produced an unique combination of 80's disco funk classics. E.g. "Tavares" with the underrated "Loveline" and great full length versions of "Curtis Hairston", Komiko (from the classic label SAM Records), "Cutty", and beautiful vocal-classic 12 inches of "Naimi", "Felicia Collins" and "Alfie Silas". Enjoy the summer soulful disco funk experience of Nighttime Lovers 6!
Some highlights:
Tavares:
This family group from the U.S.A. scored in the 70's hit after hit. After 8 years they released their last album for Capitol Records in 1981. The title song was a # 1 hit in Japan. Produced by Kashif, this album had a new sound for the brothers. Strange enough this track was on 12 inch-promo available, but had the same length as the album version! So, Frankie Rodriguez from "Behind The Grooves" made an extended version of this beautiful track.
Curtis Hairston:
Curtis Hairston was born on October 10, in Winston-Salem, North-Carolina, U.S.A. Signing in 1983 on his friend's Earl Monroe (basketball player) "Pretty Pearl"-label, he Immediately scored his first hit in the U.K. with "I want you (all tonight) with background vocals from Luther Vandross!
In 1985 he released the track "I want your lovin' (just a little bit), even a bigger hit in the U.K. than the former. Also in 1985, he sung lead on the last B.B.&Q. Band album "Genie". In 1986 he switched to Atlantic Records where he made only 1 album. Sadly he died of kidney failure in 1996, only 35 years old!
Alfie Silas:
Born in Los Angeles, U.S.A., Alfie Silas Durio was a top notch session singer but also a competent singer in her own right. In 1982 her same-titled LP was released on RCA. The follow-up album in 1983 contained the marvellous track "You put the L in love". Her latest album in 1985 was on Motown Records, produced by label-veterans Norman Whitfield and Willie Hutch.
Nowadays she's a still a session singer. You can hear musical contributions from Alfie on many soundtracks and American television theme songs.
