50年代にはエルヴィスを初めとした大スターを擁してカントリーやロック・シーンに大きな貢献をしたRCA。しかしソウル/R&Bでは？そうなのです、60年代から始まったソウル・ブームに当時乗り遅れたのか、50年代の様な大ヒットには恵まれず、それ故にオブスなレコードが多いレーベルの1つになった。本作はそんな音源達、1966-78年産のRCA/VICTORに残されたレア・ノーザン・ソウルやモダン・ソウルをコンパイル！
とはいえ、流石は資産の豊富なRCA、サウンドの方は見事に洗礼されております。(1) DYNAMICS、(12) WILLIE HUTCHによるビッグ・ネームの珠玉の60年代ノーザン・トラックや、(2) CELESTRALSや(3) HERB WARD等のノーザン・ソウル・シーンで人気のレア音源も多数収録！また後半は70sに移行、(15) BILL HARRISのグレイト・モダンや、モータウン・ライクの(16) CHARLES DRAIN等、完成度の高い音源多し！ナイス・コンパイル！

Recording giant RCA are used to coming first. The world’s largest manufacture of phonographs developed the first 331/3-rpm long play record, the first 45-rpm single, the first stereo recordings, the first stereo 8-track tape and the first quadraphonic recordings. They were also no stranger to hit records having secured the recording contract of Elvis Presley in 1955.
However, RCA failed miserably to recognize or understand the R&B/Soul boom of the sixties evening failing to hit with the former million-selling artist (and one of Elvis’ favourites) Roy Hamilton. Consequently, RCA, is one of the few collectable labels where the official stock copy 45 is rarer than the disc jockey promotional release…Northern Soul heaven!
